Paumanok 1998 Cabernet Franc

For the first time, Paumanok has produced a varietal Cabernet Franc. The wine is 82% Cabernet Franc and 18% Cabernet Sauvignon. Joseph Nase of Manhattan's Lespinasse restaurant described it as "a light, delightful summer red for grilled fish, chicken or meat." On October 22, 2000, Howard Goldberg of The New York Times wrote, "...earthy, redolent of dark berries both in aroma and flavor...pleasing vanillan from the barrel." 300 cases were made.

The floral nose on this wine is textbook Franc; married to the bright cherry fruit that comes through on the palate, the result is a lighter-style, charming wine that should prove versatile with food. Dangerously gulpable.
